When you empty the bath in the northern hemisphere, the water drains out in a clockwise "whirlpool". When you empty the bath in the southern hemisphere, it drains out anti-clockwise. It's all to do with the Earth's rotation.

I feel a scientific experiment on a global scale coming on here - LFC#1 if you're in, go fill the bath and empty it and report back mate

Theoretically if you empty your bath directly on the equator, the water shouldn't spin at all and should drain straight downwards. Do we have any Reds form Equador or Equatorial Guinea who could test this theory?

equator is clockwise

and it the earths geomagnetic field, not earths rotation
