again dawson ur missing the point, ur example does carry weight, and while to be honest i persoanlly disagree, i can see how there is an arguement to say that two black people calling eachother niggers on TV can be very offensive to some people.

But the scenario here isnt that at all, its the difference between charley choosing to refer to herself as a nigger, and a person (who is effectively a stranger) calling her a nigger.

if you cant see the difference between those two wildy different things i think we'll probably have to stop the discussion here and (i hate to say it) agree to disagree.

Nigger is clearly a racist term, its origins are in from the times of Black slavery. It shouldn't be used full stop, its derogatory.
The problem is some black people use it, it does them no credit, and they are usually from a certain section of society, any educated black people i know are embarressed when they hear others use it.

My problem with someone being castigated for using it is that then we need to stop all music that refers to the word. Stop playing it on MTV and selling it. The very same Rappers say some bollox that we have reclaimed the word only we can use it, but know full well that more non blacks buy their music than blacks.

I think it is racist to say you can't use that word but we can. Quite ironic that a Big Brother found the use of nigger offensive......considering all the C rap on that show.

It's not that simple and you know it, Charley can say whatever she likes about herself , she is choosing to be derogetory towards herself , she had no choice in what emily said ,emily made the comment to charly ,now she said she wasn't offended but more shocked that emily said it, but the rules of bb state that housemates cannot make remarks that will cause offence to fellow housemates or to the viewing public. If bb had  done nothing ,then the complaints from the public would have been overwhelming. After the jade goody incident that had to act.

just seems a bit hypocritical that charly can say it and emily couldnt, plus, who was actually offended by that? if anyone was, they need to grow up and acept certain things are said in certain in certain ways and sometimes an apology is better than just dismissing someone
