You should be ok, however I have Vista and not windows 7.

If not, then just place your old hard drive into your new computer so you have two hard drives, do a fresh install of XP on the old drive therefore wiping it and install the games that wont work onto XP. At start up you will have the option then of booting into Windows 7 or XP.

You cant install the old hard drive into the new pc and play off the bat as when you install the games they insert files all over the place e.g. Registry, which is why I recommend reinstalling XP on the old one and wiping the drive completely as a fresh installation takes account of the hardware in your new pc.

What Kharkaz is saying you can run a dual boot system with 7 and XP on different partitions.

Its a bit more complicated than how Kharkaz has described. but there are many online tutorials on how to do it. TBH, its unnecessary for Woof to do so as there are very few XP era games that wont run on 7.

Woof: you need to do two simple things. First of all you need to install your old games to your new drive. Using a USB key you can copy over your old save game files.

Alternatively you can transfer over the old save game files by physically connecting your old HDD to your new PC. 7 will recognise your old folders but you will not be able to run the old games from that drive as they have been installed to an XP environment and need to be re-installed. Once done you can format your old drive and use it for additional storage.

Yeah what JBG said ! :D

There are some old games though that may have problems with the sound. I have noticed this with a few of my old games. On XP they work fine but apparently the Vista set up uses different sound settings, something to do with direct sound or something like that.

Thanks lads.

Loading my games onto the new pc is straight forward enough, I've got the hard copies (discs). It's the transfer of the saved game files thats been puzzling me. I've transferred the saved game files onto a portable drive thinking I could then transfer them from there onto the new PC. Wasn't sure if that would work.

Thanks again

Most of your save game files will be found under MyDocuments/MyGames. The reminder will be in custom folders created by each game.

Simply copy and paste.

completely different than sims, its a turn based startegy game mate, you build empires on earth like maps or worlds and fight other civilizations. You start off with a settler, in ancient era you build a city, then you can expand your empire through building new cities and you build armies etc... Also you have to watch out for resources in your land, some of them are really important to build men and such for example Oil and Iron. Then through research you advance era till you get future era, cool game and requires alot of thinking and strategy.

I had to go to war for oil once

:D  I'm playing as China. Attacked a nearby city state and now in every diplomatic encounter I'm greeted with "Oh, it's you, the Blood Thirsty One "  :D
