Just got a DVD delivered from Amzaon - "Fabulous Four" - it's about the era when
Duran, Leonard, Hagler and Hearns were all fighting each other.

Can't wait to watch it, get the popcorn out.

The best middleweight boxing era.  :nod

Manny Pacquiao looks set to fight Floyd Mayweather Jnr on March 13 after agreeing to a proposal from Bob Arum.

Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz said Arum presented the fighter with the proposal at a two-hour breakfast in Manila on Friday.

"The requests of Manny were so realistic that Arum doesn't feel it's a problem and it's pretty much a done deal," Koncz said.

The Filipino legend, who is running for president in his home nation, has some requests of his own that require some ironing out, although trainer Freddie Roach believes they will be no obstacle to the fight the world wants to see.

"We talked to Arum and he had the March date and May 1 available and Manny chose the earlier date because of the elections in the Phillipines, and I can't wait to get started," Roach told Sky Sports News.

"It'll be the biggest fight of all time, the biggest pay-per-view event of all time and my main sparring partner will be Amir Khan.

"There's always negotiations, like he (Mayweather) wants 10oz gloves we want 8oz gloves, stuff like that, the weight he wants is 154lb, we want 147, so there's some issues but I think it can be solved.

"It's a tough fight because his style does give us difficulties, and we need to draft a plan for a new strategy. Yes, it's a tough fight but it's a fight Manny wants."

Both fighters have claims to the right to be called the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and it appears matters will be settled sooner, rather than later.

I think Pac is a greater fighter but Mayweather will win because he is bigger - a bit like B.J Penn being too small against JSP in MMA.

I'd like Pac to win but think he is just too small to beat a great figher who is bigger.

Why doesn't boxing have standards for gloves, ringsize etc?

they do actually. but its all agreed upon in the negotiations leading up to the actual fight. boxers in the middleweight to welterweight categories usually fight with 8 or 10 ounce gloves.

in terms of size, it should be insignificant really. Pacquiao is 5/6 (169cm) and Mayweather is about 5/7 and a half (171cm). reach wouldnt matter much either because the difference would probably be, give or take two or three inches. the area where the fight would be decided would be the fighting styles of both fighters.

mayweather, like him or not, for the size of his mouth or the flash of his lifestlye, he is very much a boxer's boxer. the counter puncher of all counter punchers, its amazing really when you think about it. he's brash and flashy, all style outside the ring. but when he is in that square, mayweather is very cold and calculating. and technical too boot.

his lateral and head movements are what you would call by 'the book' and that, coupled with his style of blocking, 'the philly shell' makes him very hard to hit. and even when an opponent scores a hit its usually one that doesnt hurt him much. he picks his spots, bides his time, waits for openings or his opponent to slip up. usually his opponents get frustrated to the point where they lash out with a flurry of jabs or anything they have to hurt him; which more often than not plays into his strategy, as it tires his opponents, and finally opens up the shots he wants to take.

you'll NEVER see mayweather score a first round, knockout win (not technical mind you) over a fighter because he is not that kind of a boxer. his fights WILL last a couple of rounds.

pacquiao on the other hand, combines speed and power. he likes to get in there and bang, and his game revolves around that. when he engages, he throws combos from hilariously unusual angles and backs out before the opponent has time to register. its very much like a shock and awe campaign. he steps in, rains a couple of hooks and jabs, and steps back out of reach. it is a strategy that speed and power compliments very well. without factoring in trainers, and how freddie roach would influence the fight,(everyone knows he's the brains behind pacquiao's brawn anyways) how that strategy will fare against a hard to hit, slippery opponent will be the synopsis of the fight.

a very big difference that i see between the two fighters is that floyd, because of his great technical ability and defense hasnt really had his chin tested. hence the name pretty boy. i mean, zab judah got one really good hit on floyd one time and floyd almost lost his knees but other than that the boxing world hasnt seen how floyd mayweather would hold up against a barrage of hard hitting, 'where did that come from' kind of punches. whereas, based on the wars that pacquiao has had with mexican fighters like Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales, there isnt really a question mark over whether or not he can take a number of punishing punches.

i cant wait for this fight to happen really.

im sorry if i rambled on too long. i should've just answered your question  :D  but i'm saddened for now because speculation is all i have left. what would happen if they fought. IF.

apparently contract negotiations have stalled over the issue of blood testing, and petty accusations have been thrown about both camps that might lead both fighters to a courthouse.

but seriously. i think i speak for a lot of people when i say, i just really really really want to see the fight.

so shut up and fight already.

Cheers Nan.

Yeah I like Haye.  At least he has a bit of charisma about him, the heavyweight division has been crying out for someone like that for a while.

Ruiz will give him a fight though, I reckon it will go the distance or near enough.  Apoints win or late stoppage for Haye :nod
