Yep we are under the cosh now. Could do with wiping out a few sessions with rain. Frustrating though, and as usual the bowlers will get the blame. The batsmaen though should hang their heads in shame, not one of the feckers got their nut down and got a big scoire. If they had and we'd got 550, we could have surrounded the bat and got them bang under pressure. Hopefully a draw and we can learn a few lessons.

Yes I think going 1-0 down would be the end of it to be honest. I know we came back from 1-0 in 2005 but I don't think this group of players has the same b0ll0cks as that lot did. Simon Jones was a huge factor, while even Freddie was a better bowler then than he is now. If we can eke out a draw which won't be easy when we find ourselves 120 or so behind, we can go to Lords and try and put things right.

The two teams IMHO are very evenly matched, but that means when you have the opportunity to put the boot in you simply MUST take it. All those batters getting starts and none going on was criminal. This Aussie team isn't a patch on the best ones, but that doesn't mean they are going to lie down and die, they'll fight like pitbulls in a sack. As such when you've got the opportunity you have to kill them off. If you don't, when they get out of the hole they'll bite you in the erse, just like what's happened here.

Should be a draw unless we demonstrate that we are completely lacking in any sort of ersehole, a bunch of public school w@nkers who have absolutely no fecking backbone whatsoever. So, how are we going to pull it back at Lords

Steve Harmison Mick. He would solve a lot of bowling heart ache. Get him in and take that spinner (who can't spin) Graeme Swann out.

Oh I don't know mate I wouldn't say you were lucky. I know you could argue that you were extremely fortunate to have an outfield as lush as that so the ball doesn't reverse swing, but all in all the Aussies fully deserved their draw  :D

Seriously though although England escaped, it wasn't "luck". They had the odd break here and there, but some fairly decent batting towards the end and a tiring attack which sorely missed a really top performer finally decided it. Obviously if either Warne or McGrath were still around it wouldn't have made it to the tea interval. Ultimately though, if Johnson isn't at full throttle (and he wasn't throughout the match) then the Aussie attack is decent but unspectacular. That England criminally conspired to almost donate their wickets twice over on a road of a track shouldn't disguise that.

I should think in the second test England will bring Harmison in, the game will be much closer and the Aussies will go 1-0 up, as they generally do at Lords. I still think it wil be a very close series though, with the Aussies perhaps retaining the Ashes by virtue of a 2-2 draw, along with England winning the final dead rubber as they generally do.

Only the Ashes brings out that kind of cricket. Truly amazing escape. Reminds me of 2005 when the Aussies achieved a similar result.
