well seeing as i'm an artist and seeing as, according to sabre, this thread has been inspired by me i should write some lengthy contribution about the meaning and purpose of art. the problem is though that it would be a waste of time.  :D

Oh, I'm sorry - I wasn't aware that my opinions were an affront to you.

My college roommate was an art history major and he used to hang this kind of stuff up on the walls, which means it must be avant garde! :D

I know...it's a classy establishment with the crown moulding matching the mantle and a velvet rendering of the King on the wall.  Well posh, as you might say!

Little L.E.D's for the diamond studs on the suit would have added that final touch of class if you ask me.  :eyebrow

Recently I found out that the person who taught me history in secondary school is an artist. Apparently he's starting to get known in the world of art. His name is Vincent Geyskens, he's Belgian. Here is some of his work.

You're more of a traditionalist, then. Like myself. But what of Van Gogh or the Spanish painter Goya? They painted some surrealistic paintings in their time, some of them regarded as masterpieces.

Goya is an interesting case, because he was famous for painting situations of the times he lived

Image

This painting was about the resistance of the Spanish people against the French oppressor for instance

Perhaps the best surrealist is Salvador Dalí, but it's true that Goya started the surrealist paintings much earlier, for instance with this picture

Image

I must confess though that although I find Picasso and Dali's paintings beautiful to see, I couldn't tell you why their paintings are worth a fortune where as others are not.
