No offence to any irish out there, but paddys day is one day i never drink. Why should i? i wanna celebrate st georges day (APril 23rd, anyone who doesnt know it...shame on you)

i dont celebrate st davids day either... but i do drink on st andrews day.

The whole irish theme pub funny hats and people trying to drink guinness and rememebring that they once saw an irish setter making them eligible for the irish national team doesnt do it for me.

If you are irish, celebrate the fact by all means, if you're english, do your history, have some pride.

1st of all I wanted to send the best wishes to all the Irish around here. I was in Ireland some summers and I have great memories, I was treated great by Southern Dubliners.

2nd, I won't complain about national pride, but world wide merchandising. Spanish official Saint is Santiago, one of the 12 disciples of Jesus. But since 10 years they're trying we celebrate St patrick's day by making special offers in Irish pubs. And since 10 years back they come with the fuzz of "It's Halloween"!!! when here we didn't bloody care about Halloween whatsoever. Never.

Same applies to Santa Klaus in the winter. More that national pride, I think that there's a global and stupid merchandising campaign to make us waste more money in days like this

There is no reason why a protestant from Northern Ireland who has a British identity cannot celebrate St Patricks day as much as a catholic from the Republic of Ireland. St Patrick probably lived in Down (in Northern Ireland) FFS, and it was Christianity (not catholicism) that he introduced.

I also think that English folk should celebrate ST George's day more but even if you have no Irish heritage it is still a great night out (I'd a great July 4 night out in America years back)

How about a day to celebrate whoever discovered Alcohol?

:D

Oi Big Niall - are you a politician or something ?....The only thing I look forward to on St. Patrick's Day is bringing the little 'un to see a parade or two. That's what it's about - she has a smile from ear to ear. No alcohol necessary.
