I have never taken drugs, smoked pot etc, but I do smoke tobacco and I used to enjoy alcohol. If someone is over 18 as long as they don't hurt anyone else I see no problems. Plenty of my mates took drugs when they were young (some still do) without any noticable problems.

Having said that I did everything I could to discourage my children from smoking, and would be very worried if I found out that any of them were experimenting with drugs.

if he was drink driving, nobody would be saying that he should be banned even though he could kill an innocent person.

smoking a drug, can only harm the smoker so big deal for anyone else.

Unless it was done to get a competitive advantage - which obviously it wasn't.

I totally agree about drug driving - 100% immoral.

My point was that doing drugs and NOT driving, is no where near as bad as driving under any influence, yet if he was caught drink driving, nobody would be saying to ban him.

I voted yes. If children do look up to him as a role model then id say there starting off already on a slippery slope ! He swims around a bit big whoop ! Hero material? good god no.

Illegal or not every bugger is doing it these days, it doesnt affect his profession so whats the big deal?

if your child looks to famous people for guidance then that is your fault. As a child I had John Barnes posters all over my room but I didn't care about the person, his views on anything etc, just loved watching him play football. Same with swimmers, singers, actors etc.

If phelps didn't pay his tv license, would people be saying that he broke the law, what he did is illegal and therefore he is a bad role model.

This role model stuff is cr*p and I always thought that (maybe I was just a cynical child :) )We watch famous people use their talent, they get paid loads of money because seeing their skill makes us happy. That's the deal - no deal about them teaching our children right from wrong.

he has been banned and rightly so - should be for longer in my eyes . All drug users should be banned for life in my eyes - performancing enhancing or not .

Phelps Ban

He smoked a bong dude. Slight difference.
Espcially when you see in most American Sports (baseball) drugs are absolutely rife.

Remember that snowboarder getting done for smoking weed. Imagine drug tests in the x games!!!

3 month ban is more than enough.
