A man will appear in court today accused of lobbing a mobile phone at Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
Roy Goldie 35, denies hurling the device at the 20-year-old during a Premiership match against Liverpool in January.
It allegedly happened as Rooney celebrated scoring the winning goal in front of home supporters at Liverpool's Anfield stadium.
He will be tried at Liverpool Magistrates Court.
Goldie, of Dovecot, Merseyside, is charged with throwing a mobile telephone at or towards a playing area without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.

To be honest I thought he had a great excuse

And what exactly would the law classify as "reasonable excuse"?
"M'lud, my client had to throw the phone onto the field as he had just received a call for Mr Rooney on his mobile, and was trying to connect the two parties involved in the conversation."
