Arthur C Clarke has died at the age of 90.  :(

one of the best, most visionary authors of the science fiction genre ever to have lived and described the use of space shuttles, communication satellites and super computers as far back as the 1940s.

also created the story for one of the most dense, confusing, annoying but astoundingly brilliant films ever to be made - 2001: a space oddysey.

"2001: A Space Odyssey" was one of the biggest waste of a couple of hours I've ever spent in front of a television.

I tried to get it, I really tried, the best bits were the bits with the computer Hal.  I've read on websites about what it's supposed to mean and I JUST DON'T GET IT. :D

Regardless, RIP Mr. Clarke.  I don't for one second doubt you knew what you were on about when you wrote it...

Very sad news for literature, he's a universal writer, known around the world.

I always remember the good relationship between him and Isaac Asimov, they both agreed to say in all interviews that the other one was a better writer, unlike many writers that along the history had rivalries.

Probably the music that comes well to this farewell is Mike Oldfield's "The songs of distant Earth", the very song that was inspired while reading one of Arthur Clarke's books.
