Shocked at the news that the young Seville defender has passed away after suffering a heart attack on Saturdays game with Getafe

For anyone else who caught the game the cameras caught a glimpse of medical staff reviving him and visably stopping him from swallowing his tongue was shocking viewing for those of us sitting in for a quiet night of footy and my condolences go out to all the Seville fans and of course the lads family

Shocked as I expected him to be OK once he reached hospital.

awful news.

good player too. You've got to ask yourself how can a footballer (an athlete in superb fitness) can just die of a heart attack like that.

Shocking.

RIP

Absolutely stunned to hear this news.

I too was watching the game on Saturday and felt quite alarmed when I saw his team mates rushing to his aid. When he was shown walking from the pitch it was quite a relief.
This news however is deeply saddening and my deepest sympathies go to the players family and all connected with Sevilla FC.

Another scare today at Leicester's Carling Cup tie...

From BBC...

Clarke collapse ends Forest tie

Nottm Forest A-A Leicester

Nottingham Forest's Carling Cup tie at home to Leicester was abandoned at half-time after Foxes defender Clive Clarke collapsed in the dressing room.

Paramedics rushed down the tunnel to attend to the 27-year-old shortly after the half-time whistle.

"Clive was very seriously ill," said Leicester chief executive Tim Davies.

"He was taken away in an ambulance to hospital. He did offer a few words in the ambulance. Our thoughts and prayers are with Clive and his family."

He added: "I would like to say a big thank you to Nottingham Forest for dealing with the matter so fast."

BBC Radio 5live reported that Clarke was being treated in the emergency room at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

He is believed to be conscious.

Forest were leading the Carling Cup tie 1-0 at half-time thanks to Junior Agogo's goal.

However, after a delay of 15 minutes, Forest boss Colin Calderwood and Leicester manager Martin Allen emerged from the tunnel to announce to the crowd that the game had been abandoned.

Calderwood said: "We are afraid that due to the serious illness of a Leicester player both clubs have agreed to postpone the match."

Forest chief executive Mark Arthur said later: "I think football is secondary to human issues.

"As soon as we found out the serious nature of Clive's situation, we went straight to the referee and said we would do whatever is right by Leicester.

"Obviously, they are going through great trauma at the moment and we very quickly agreed between the three parties that the game should be abandoned."

seems a lot of medical staff are missing heart problems, there have been a few instances of this, foe springs to mind.

maybe i am being unfair, maybe there are no symptoms or maybe the players don't inform the staff they feel unwell.

Kanu was fortunate when Inter's medical staff discovered he needed surgery on his arteries during his routine medical check up before joining Inter.

I'm no doctor but different medication or exercise routine have different effects on different people. The frequency of young athletes having heart problems are worrying to say the least, the Benfica striker, Fehr comes to mind.

No, you are not unfair, to be honest.

A heart specialist has said that diseases like this happen to 1 out of 200.000 people so the risk is there.

This specific disease he had can only be detected with a very modern TAC (multi slided), and thus Puerta went through all the TACS, electrocardiograms, and every other check with no problems.

That's why you have to pay attention to symptons such as faints, and Puerta fainted twice in the past, so that thorough check should have been done just in case.

We are all very shocked around here, and down there in Sevilla, Betis and Sevilla fans are united for one day. Betis fans are being clapped as they put flowers on the Sevilla stadium.

Tragic. It's bad enough, but he really was living his dream. He was a Sevilla fan and Sevilla have never been better. 22 is no age at all. RIP.

This has been happening more and more of late. After MV Foe, wasn't there another African lad who died on the field? And there was a Brazilian guy too. Last night in the Carling Cup, some lad from Leicster collapsed at half time and they had to abandon the game with Notts Forest (though it may not be his heart). Perhaps Doc's should spend more time checking these things out. Do footballer's have heart checks? You'd think so,  but I dunno. The should.
