Pm's, banned people, stu the red etc. - What's the score?

Strange one this. AS many will know, I extremely reluctantly banned Stu off the forum a while back. Some said at the time that although he had been a serial offender in the past, on this occasion he was harshly treated. Maybe they were right, but I was recieving many messages complaining about his behaviour. It has to be said that in my opinion, one poster in particular was doing their best to continually wind Stu up but whatever, I made my decision and right or wrong, there it was.

Now I made no secret at the time of my opinion that the forum from a football discuussion point of view is poorer for his absence, and he sent me a PM recently in which he talked at length about the new signings, the start we've made etc etc. His opinions were as forthright as usual, but well informed, logical and thought provoking, and whats more he didn't mention Dean Ashton once.

Now there are a couple of rubs here. Firstly, I took the time to reply to his post at some length (most people would have found the content as boring as feck to be fair) but the message just bounces back to me. Address not found, contact your server, ISP problem, lights not flashing, scratch your erse etc etc. So question one for anybody who unlike me has even a modicum of knowledge about such things, is why does this happen? Is it because he is banned, and if so how comes he can send messages?

Question two is more of a cunnundrum. I alluded to the fact recently that I'm ready to hang the old moderating boots up as soon as somebody wants to take over. Seven months is long enough for anybody, and it's situations like the Stu one which tire me out to be honest. I'd have him back on in a flash, I think he's done his time and while I'm sure he hasn't learned any lessons at all (and probably never will in all honesty) I think he'd liven the place up a bit. Who knows, if he behaves himself for a bit, there might be some new mods around next time he deserves a card. Like I say, I'd have him back but then again I know it'd p!ss many people off, such dilemma's ultimately make the job impossible. Any thoughts?

i also banned stu as he was a banned poster who came back without permission.

I have since chatted with him on msn and he is a good egg, we settled any differences we had and all is hunky dory. i think stu's problem is he wont step down and when the talking has run its course then the abuse has to start   :D

its ok with me if he comes back (but he will probably get himself banned again)

its people like oasis and karim we need to keep off the forum, they know nothing about football.

with regards to the pm, as far as admin haven't removed him he can still send and receive pms

I don't like permanent bans when it comes to regular members that are fans of the club, and that includes Stu and Barry Belfast who I don't like much but there's no doubt he's a regular and a Liverpool fan.

So I think that after being banned for a while they should come back and dealt with just when they start to cause trouble again.

As for the other question, I'd need a more accurate description of which and where those error messages and light flashing appeared. :p

I have spoken to stu as well.

He's sound.

Plus I agree with his comments that led to his bannings.

It's a strange one Peewee. I "replied" to his message and it didn't work, and I e-mailed the address shown and that didn't work either. Very odd.

S'fair enough what you say about keeping people off the forum. For my part, I've made no secret in discussions with Stu that there are plenty of people who deserve a bit of abuse from time to time, WUM's and the like so I can never understand it when people resort to giving fellow supporters the hard word. I guess it's the ultimate cop-out cowards way out on my part to ask for opinions given the fact that I'm the one who banned him, but thanks for your opinion anyhow Peewee I appreciate it.

Chances are that the PM actually arrived and wasn't lost, it just seems that the forums was unable to send the notification of PM to Stu's mail. (Everytime you write a PM the system sends a notification and a copy of it to the mail, and when this fails you receive an error).

Isnt being banne 6 times enough?
If he comes back I leave simple, I warned the MODS if he came back I would either recieve a warning which I did or get banned myself which I nearly did.

The problem with him is he only thinks he is right and everyone else is wrong, but when the personal insults come into effect then he should be banned my son has feck all to do with this forum and he had no right to say what he did about him.

I won't protest if you have Stu back. Yes, his posts were provoking or even insulting sometimes, but he does seem have a good knowledge about football, which is becoming poorer in this forum these days, as you said. This a football forum, anyway. Football should be the ultimate theme, and we need someone who knows what he is talking about. If he promises to behave himself, his coming back will no doubt liven up football discussion here and that will be a bless to the forum.

While I agree when he talked footie he could 'really' talk footie, there was no need for how he abused CIGGY and her lad, so fk him, I'm with CIGGY on this one.

I don't know if this happens, but once someone gets into personal abuse mode, can't the mods, if online, send a PM making it clear that any more and its a ban, not cards, but a ban. Or that you ban them for 7 days for example, with immediate effect. It takes the steam out of the spat, and means that someone doesn't go on and on until they recieve all their cards. Just a thought.
Having him back isn't a problem for me, infact its the crappy one line 'yeah SG is great' or 'Babel is doing great' posters that annoy me more.

fair enough ciggy, i forgot about that, seems there are two camps i suppose and if a member had a genuine reason to keep people off then they need to be heard also

Very awkward this cos i have seen Stu looking at threads and gone in hoping that he had posted, like a few others he is someone thats posts i try and look out for, i would really be interested in what he thinks about things so far.
For that reason it would be great to have him back.
But then there is the other side of things, i personally have never had any run ins with him but can see how he might upset others.
An ideal scenario for me would be for him to send Ciggy a big bunch of flowers..apologise, apologise again. And then hopefuly we can all be mates again. Or at least all be able to chat about lfc together anyway.

I think we need posters like Stu who can really add to the footy discussions, but what we don't need is the stupid abusive arguments that go along with the great footy posts. I didn't think he deserved to be banned last time, because he was deliberately wound up and prevoked.

I honestly believe he tried to behave last time ,but Stu being Stu, it was really just a matter of time before he lost it again anyway.

If it was up to me I would give him his own little section " Stu's World of Football" and then anyone who posts in it does so at their own risk, but still maintain his ban from posting in the other areas.(Maybe have it moderated)  This would surely satisfy both the people who want him back and also the people who don't.
