thought it was worth discussing

Job Discrimination For The Overweight Tuesday October 25, 07:48 AM    Workers who are overweight find it harder to get a job than slim people, suggesting "hidden" discrimination, a report claims.A survey of 2,000 personnel officers found most preferred to hire someone of "normal" weight.Half of those polled by Personnel Today magazine said they believed obesity affected a worker's productivity.

A similar number thought overweight people lacked self discipline.

One in 10 would not want an overweight employee to meet a client and the same percentage believed they could sack a worker for being fat.

Karen Dempsey, editor of Personnel Today, said: "To date, obesity has not been given the same recognition as sex, age, disabilities and race discrimination.

"But as our survey shows, overweight workers are being marginalised and given fewer opportunities than their slimmer counterparts.

"A clearer definition of obesity is needed to help businesses understand how obesity truly affects performance in the workplace."

i do see the point it is making. Image is important in some jobs and personally i do feel that first impressions are important.

thats not to say fat people cant do the job, the job should not be based on weight or any other factor other than whether the person is capable of doing the job, unfortunatley though some people will not pass the interview stage based on weight. (this is a serious point I will make here, how many times have you knocked back the fat bird in the bar as she doesnt look as good as the slim bird, she may be better in bed but you dont let it get that far and your perception is that shes not as good as the slim bird)

Im sorry but if they discriminate you because you are fat , in my eye that is no different from being racist.

What they dont have in the way of a nice slim body , they make up for it in the sack ,usually because they are so gratefull.

Well, so me mate tells me.

And the moral of the story, nevet judge a book by its cover !

FAT is the new BLACK.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

But is it?  You can't choose your race.  I know that some obese people have medical problems which causes the obesity.  But the majority of overweight people eat too many calories for their daily lifestyles.  This lifestyle can be modified by eating less and exercising more.

So what I'm saying is that in most cases, it a choice.

i was in tesco's last night and the bloke in front of me at the checkout was a right pork beast, must've been at least 30st. anyway, you should've seen the sh!te he was buying - all burgers and pizzas and multipacks of chocolate and cans of coke

as soon as he had paid for his stuff he proceded to sit down and stuff his face with a can of coke and a massive chocolate bar in about 10 seconds flat

the point i'm making is like hawky says, for most fat people being fat is a choice rather than something they can do little about

whether that translates into lack of self discipline at work though is another matter, in fact i'd say it's complete b0llocks. one of the most successful people i know in my line of work is a right tubby git but has also just swum the channel for charity. so yes, i'd happily employ a fatty just so long as he or she didn't eat my biscuits

You are what you are , at the end of the day whether your Black,White ,fat or thin you shouldnt be discriminated against.

Anyway why should we all be thin and exercise , if I want a beer belly ,two chins and live life comfortably thats my choice.
That should have nothing to do with getting a job ,especially an office one.

As long as they provide their own seats!  The last place I worked in had to buy this "overweight" person a new chair after 3 months, and had to get one which was designed for people of the large persuasion, which cost 4 times the price of the standard office chairs.  Three weeks after that, we had to replace the toilet seats in 2 of the loos - broken by you know who (they actually admitted it!!).

Productivity wise, they worked just as hard as the rest of us.......

:D
