Newkit jukebox - The 80's

Just swapped a few tunes with Maypax and it reminded me that the newkit forum is full of well informed music lovers.

I want to put together some random music listings  and so leading on from my exchange with Maypax lets have you favourite tune from the 80's (we'll do other decades later) .

I know we've all got loads of favourites but lets keep it simple lads ONE CHOICE ONLY and if possible give a link to where we can actually listen to the tune (e.g utube etc)

Off the top of my head (probabably the best way to do it) I'll kick off by picking

Level 42

Groovy

Christ on a lolly stick.....there's SO MANY great tunes from that decade. Especially the first half of it.

Cheese?  In abundance, dollops of it......no mistake. But there you will find some of THE most iconic and memorable pieces of work that have ever been penned. For my own money, THE seminal era for music when we speak about influence on a culture and its conscience. Of course thats all relative to your age and rightly so...Perhaps on reflection it has more to do with happier times growing up, like being at school, escaping the obstacles that life puts before you and turning round and sticking two fingers up to the challenge...with a great big cocky smile on your face. And most likely of all... buzzing off all the hits of the day along with those heady, excitingly riske encounters. Tunes just never stopped coming out the Radio - like a perpetual stream of anecdotes and melodies...some of them hauntingly recollectable to this day - 'most' of them sounding like they were constructed with you and your adventures alone in mind.

I could be here all day with a list as long as your leg...but i wont. I'll choose one - a track that for me encapsulates both the wonderment and aprehension during those early mists of adolescence and attempts to permeate its 'fug' with a nostalgic resonance i can only regret not being able to ever live through again. This one goes off like a Hydrogen bomb in the depths of my memory.....from 1983.

ENJOY

I'm with Red, this topic's more cruel than kind if we have to limit it one choice.  The 80s was a completely under-rated decade when it came to music.  Some really, really great stuff came out in the 80s.  I could sit here for hours torturing myself about which song to pick but, feck it, I'll just go with the first one to pop into my head and then sneak back in the future and throw in a few more! :D

I know there must be a "story" behind every one's pick but some just aren't gonna make it onto my "Newkit Jukebox" whatever the excuse  :D

Those deffo not on my Newkit jukebox  (and therefore you get to pick again)

Saint - elkie brooks , ( I could've lived with "Pearls a singer" )

Red 37 - China Crisis (was your pick one of their B sides ?     :D )

Hats off to the rest of the lads , Billy Joel and Richard Marx especially  :)

Ahhhhh...the old farts are showing their age....me included....Can't pick one track alone, there were so many classics....Couldn't believe it last night when out of the blue on one of the radio stations over here, the DJ played Blanc Mange.....now THERE'S a blast from way back (scary thing was I remember mst of the lyrics...)
