Everyone has an opinion, I think the split idea is good.

1) This forum has a well known bug involving huge threads in which some posts of the end of each page cannot be seen

2) Anybody who's been around here for a while knows that in the game threads many people post one-liners before and after the match. Decent analysis and posts are lost within countless "frustrating", "great victory" posts, not to mention the "player is cráp" kind of posts which are then followed by "you're a clueless twát". It's actually difficult to keep a proper discussion in that conditions

Thus the in-match threads have "chat" structure, where as the post-match should have more developed posts, if we all agree to put developed posts in the post match thread, and for the "quick comments" we use the in-match thread, I think it's a great idea.

Wilhelmsson wrote:I hope this doesn’t sound rather rude, but why has the Porto topic been closed and new one opened? It’s split the debate up into two sections, which is unnecessary IMO. I cannot quote people now and offer my conclusion to the thread because there is a new one, in which only eight posts which a few people have contributed.

It ruins the art of discussion.

If you're really desperate you could try "cut and paste"

Another option is for one of the Mods (**cough**Leon**cough**) to go back into the match thread and move the relevant post-match analysis to the new thread after the fact.  It saves one of us having to sit there with our finger on the button, so to speak, waiting for the match to end to lock a thread and start a new one.  Thoughts?

I could copy and paste but why should I when there is a quote function enabled on the forum? BM quoted someone from the previous topic and a mod asked him “who said that”. How can there be a well constructed debate with people asking who said what, where and when?

The split is probably a good idea and well worth a try, but why not close the pre-match topic, as soon as the final whistle blows instead of closing the topic several hours after the match has finished, during an on going debate?

You can move threads, and even merge threads but you cannot move individual posts to another thread.

I don't know if it's possible to move AND copy a whole thread. If you can copy, you could remove the one-liners from the copy and keep relevant pots.

Bear in mind it would be a sensitive decission for you. Sometimes you think you're talking serious and others will find you tedious, where as others will agree. Some people might get sensitive if you didn't include their posts within the relevant ones.

There is a way that you can copy and paste AND still have the quoted by header above it. Ask Babu for further instructions or you can read it in the Real World thread.

I wondered about that.  Well, I guess that scotches that idea.  :upside:

Sarcasm aside [/sarcasm]

The problem with in match discussion is heat of the moment (especially after poor results or bad performances) means that things are posted, lovers have tiffs and threads descend into name calling and arguments a little too easily.

I personally think that match threads should be as so:

1) Pre Match build up - team speculation, injuries and tactics discussion and all the likes.

2) In Game thread - for people to post one line belters like "missed", "get in you beauty" and the less spotted "GGGGGGGGGGGGGGggggggooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllll
llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll" type of things.

3) Post match discussion. Reflection, apologies for lovers tiffs, kissing and making up etc...

If the post match discussion takes place too early, ie heat of the moment then this can spill over to the often excellent discussion about what went wrong, good substitutions and my personal favourite "hindsight".

You're talking two seperate issues here.

1
I could copy and paste but why should I when there is a quote function enabled on the forum?

No one is forcing you to cut and paste anything BUT if a thread is locked, it is one method you can use to quote a particular post from a locked thread in another.

2
BM quoted someone from the previous topic and a mod asked him “who said that”. How can there be a well constructed debate with people asking who said what, where and when?

Don't see how this is relevant to your initial whinge about a locked thread . Bamaga could easily have credited the quote ,I can only assume  he just couldn't be arsed to do. so. Members should imo always credit a quote when it's not obvious where it stemmed from.

Ah, being a mod. How much I miss having to answer this important concerns of posters, this comments about brown noses when you agree somebody, and what's even better, those reported complaints about the decency of other posters.

No wonder why people congratulate the new mods.
