I have a mk3 ford mondeo, it is a 2001 plate but has only done 33000 miles.

2 years ago my ABS light come on and the ABS stopped working, when it come to the MOT they did not pick me up on it, and the same the next year, well this year they did.

on the 30 march i took my car in for the MOT and it did not pass due to the ABS light.

they stuck this computer on it and told me that 2 wheel sensors (one on the fromt and one on the back) was not working.

a few days later i got the money and visited fords and got 2 sensors and cables (£80).
any way i had to pay the garageto put them on, when they did so the light did not go out, they told me that they need to plug in the computer and clear the codes (yes there was a fee).

any way this still did not work, they then told me that they will have the car a few days and run some test.

after a few days i got a call to say that it all points to the ABS unit (£1800 brand new) but they know a place that they could send it off to to be tested (yep there was a fee)( dont get me wrong this garage is helping all they can )

the ABS unit come back and they said it was all ok.
the garage was at a lost, all the plugs on the car and all the earths had been checked and they are all ok but yet the abs light will still not go out, they even took the hubs off the other wheels and changed them over to maske sure it was not the hubs.

anyway today i called them and after a chat we think that it must still be this ABS unit, so today i took the day off and visited a breakers.

now when i turned up at this place ( i had phoned them and asked them if they had one, they told me they did and it would cost £60) they tolld me to book in and then take a hi vis and then said the car was in the next row on top....? ??? so i had to take the unit off myself...in the rain.....with no tools.....and i cut myself..........and it still might not work....anyway i took to the garage and they will give it a try and let me know.

its now been 5 weeks since i have had my car.....i miss my car........am i sad lol

so for the rant but i had to get it all out............god knows how much my bill will be at the end of all this.

sorry to hear that fella...cars can be real money pits when they go wrong.

I had the same thing with the fuel pump in my 406, without it for 4 weeks and it felt like I'd just passed my test again when I got back in it :D

lol, to the members that said take the bulb out, well the thing is the light must come on and then go out to pass the mot, now there is a way of doing this (so i have been told) but i wiuld like the ABS to work.

I was going to take it to fords, now up untill 2 weeks ago my bill was around £150, if it had been at ford the bill would have been at £450, they would not send the ABS unit for a test they told me that they would just put a new one in £1800.

so that why i did not take it to fords lol.

i had the same thing i had a vauxhall vectra and the abs light came on, like you i got it through one mot but when it can to the next one they picked up on it i took it to a couple of different garages each time being told it was something different ( each time costing me a small fortune )

anyway i took it to a vauxhall main dealer and was told it was the abs unit and it was going to be £1600 just for the unit??

when i told them i would not pay that i had to sign to get my car back and say that it had a problem

i went on the internet looked up the part and got it for £107 and got a mate to fit it for £30 job done there just rip off :censored: who should be shot

sold the car 4 days after that and got a new one so shouldn't have bothered but oh well

good luck with the bill mate i hope it not to bad

Even if the ABS isn't working, why would it fail the MOT. ABS isn't a legal requirement is it?

no but if it is fitted it has to be in working order, its like saying headlights are not a legal requirement if you only drive in daylight, if its fitted it has to work mate

Cars!  the bottomless pit of hard earned cash... driving lessons, car loans, insurance, MOT, repairs, road tax, toll roads fuel, tyres, depreciation and then you have to pay someone to scrap it nowadays.

I didn't pass my test 'til I was 31 and now 15 years later I would say that if I could change one thing in the last 15 years it would be to reverse that decision... I don't know what I'd do without my car now because I'm such a lazy bastard

make friends with an electronics geek and get him to fit a little remote control light under the abs light on the dash. on - off - on - off. sorted.
