Lord Lucan! 

Anyone remember the book that came out in the last year which was released in a blaze of publicity which claimed that Lucan lived as a hippy in India and had photographs of "him" as an old man only for DNA tests to prove that the whole book was complete b0llocks?

Yes the guy was known as "Jungle Geff" or summit, and was in fact an old exhippie from Kent.

You had to laugh because the authors of the book carried out years of research and were putting their professional reputation on it, only for Lord Lucan's family to take one look at the photos and go "its not him".

DNA testing confirmed that the writers were barking up the wrong tree.
