stolen from rawk

I'm in Hong Kong on holiday at the moment, I picked up the South China Morning Post paper today and found this article thats worth sharing with you peeps. Its worth saving up your pennies if it becomes true.

LIVERPOOL HEADING FOR HONG KONG
(by) Chan Kin-wa

Portsmouth and Fulham also lined up for summer event

Three Premier league sides- Liverpool, Portsmouth and Fulham, are being tipped to play in the FA Premier League Asia Trophy 2007 in Hong Kong this summer.
The four team tournament, which also features the  FA Cup winners, will be held at Hong Kong stadium on July 24 and 27.
A source who has good connections with the PL said FA cup holders, 3rd in the PL, Portsmouth(7th) and Fulham (14th), have all been confirmed for the event, though there were some minor details to be ironed out between the Hong Kong FA and the english PL.
"It is almost a done deal," the source said.
Other parties were more circumspect. Martin Lam Chun-ying, the secretary-general of the Hong Kong F.A, refused to comment on the identities of the sides.
"I have been negotiating with the League for the last couple of weeks and we should be able to finalise the teams shortly. But at this stage we cannot confirm who they are, and a formal announcement will be made very soon," said Lam.
A media officer from Fulham said last night they had yet to confirm their summer schedule, while there was no response from Liverpool or Portmouth.
The English Premier League decided to take the pre-season Asia to Hong Kong after earlier editions were held in Kuala Lumpar and Bangkok in 2003 and 2005 respectively.
According to rules, the Premier League teams will include one team from the top 5, another from the 6th to 10th place and a third from 11th to 15th. Liverpool, Portsmouth and Fulham meet that criteria.
A knockout format will be adopted with two matches on the first day and a final and a third placed match on the second day.

Are you sure this tournament is gonna go ahead? I read this morning that it's the Asia Cup (International Teams) in July and the head of the Asian Federation is going mental because Man Utd have lined up 4 friendlies during that month..... I'd be amazed if they sanctioned a Club Tournament that would divert attention from their biggest event........?

Liverpool have announced plans to take part in this summer's Barclays Asia Trophy in Hong Kong as part of their pre-season preparations.
The Reds will take on the Hong Kong FA Cup winners on July 24 and then either Portsmouth or Fulham on July 27.

"We know that we have a lot of fans in Hong Kong and are looking forward to playing in front of them again," said boss Rafael Benitez.

"I'm sure they will give us wonderful support and we will do our best to win the Barclays Asia Trophy for them."

The games will be played in the 40,000 Hong Kong Stadium and all matches will be screened live by SKY Sports.

The full schedule of games is as follows:

July 24 2007

Portsmouth v Fulham 6pm (11am UK time)
Liverpool v Hong Kong FA Cup winners 8.15pm (1.15pm UK time)

July 27 2007

3rd/4th place play off 6pm (11am UK time)
Final 8.15pm (1.15pm UK time)

Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, said: "The Barclays Premiership has a fantastic following across East Asia, and nowhere more so than in Hong Kong. This is a great opportunity for those fans who follow our competition week in week out to experience what a Barclays Premiership game is like in the flesh.

"We have three fantastic clubs who will be putting out strong teams and aiming to win this increasingly prestigious trophy, and I am sure the winners of the Hong Kong FA Cup will be determined to compete."

Ticket details for the competition will be announced on Liverpoolfc.tv shortly.
