Beattie 'kicked like a football'

EVERTON striker James Beattie is reportedly recovering from a vicious bashing.
The tabloid reports that Beattie had his head "kicked like a football" in a brutal beating at a nightclub in Birmingham on Sunday morning (AEDT) as he celebrated his team's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in the English Premier League and his 27th birthday.
Reports claims the attack was brought on after a bust-up with a thug who had taunted Beattie's girlfriend. Other news outlets have played down the incident, claiming it happened in a noodle bar.
The former Southampton star, who moved to Goodison Park in a £6 million move, has been left shaken and has facial injuries as a reminder of the attack, according to club officials.
"James was enjoying a night out with his girlfriend and a group of friends when he was the victim of an unprovoked assault," an Everton spokesman said overnight.
"He was shaken by what happened but not badly injured. He did speak to the police, but he will not be pressing charges."
Beattie missed the game against Villa because he was serving a suspension for headbutting on Chelsea star William Gallas a fortnight ago. He still has a third game to skip before the suspension is lifted.
The Times claims Everton boss David Moyes is furious at Beattie for going out in public in Birmingham because he turned down the chance to play for Villa for Everton.
