MOBO (for those who dont know stands for 'Music of Black Origin'). I dont think this is a problem really, its just that in general black music is not as recognised by other award ceremonies (which are prodominently white based) and this comes down to sales really.
A lot of people (white, though a huge generalisation I know!) do not listen to or buy 'black' music, so therefore it will not be voted for and then talent can slip by without getting the props that it often deserves.

This doesnt (IMO) come down to a black/white thing really (though on the face it seems so) as many 'white' artists are recognised and win awards at the MOBO's.

What a bloody load of rubbish white people dont buy black singers music, and dont win awards, Michael Jackson has to be the most successful black artist of all time and has won every award going, Luther Vandross, George Benson, Bobby Brown, the 3 degrees, The Stylistics, Gladys Knight, Gloria Gaynor all have won awards and sold billions of records world wide. Then you have all the R & B artists whom are now multi millionairs 50 cent, Snoop dog etc etc. I prefer black singers/groups music more than white groups and singers mainly because they make better music and are better singers than us, Im totally tone deaf :D  so I think your wrong on this issue Karim.

No I think you are not understanding here!

I am NOT speaking about Stars such as Lionel Ritchie and Luthor or 50 Cent etc;   Did you notice everyone of those you mention is not from the UK.
The MOBO's relates to uk artists primarily, as they wil never get the same presence on an MTV for example, as the Americans are 'The Sh.it' or so they would have you believe.

Also, I did say, that I was making a huge generalisation, but tell me Lynds, what Black UK artists have you bought records for. And dont include Craig David, because he is almost American too now FFS!!

Tell me have you heard of any of the following (all are big in the music scene at the moment!):
*Sway
*Baby Blue
*Kalashnekov
*Kaisar
*SAS
*Trigg Vega
*Dun-John
*Bashy
*Swiss
I could go on and on...................

But of course, white people buy black peoples music (the famous ones at least) and I dont think MJ was the perfect first example either, considering he is just...well I dont even know what he is anymore! :D

PS- Funnily enough my iTunes has jus started playing - Lionel Ritchie - 'Say You, Say Me' :D

See thats my point.

Personally I dont really care whether you lot buy them or like them or even if they make money. Its just I was trying to show a reason for the MOBO's, thats all!!  But in all honesty, I dont even lke award ceremonies in general, your sales, should do all the talking really!!  But then again, artists that are signed (mainly white in this country) will sell loads due to their PR machine going into overdrive.
But thats the beauty of black uk music IMO,because people have to work hard, write their OWN stuff, not some songwriter, get on the streets and sell it at a local level, outside schools, colleges and UNI's outside Raves etc etc;

These people very rarely make money, but do it for the love more often than not!!  Most black artists only get signed after creating a storm in the underground (meaning the Majors are not willing to take the risk{as they often do with 'white' groups} unless they KNOW it will sell!).

On a sidenote (two points):
1. Have any of you heard of Channel U?
2. One of the above names in my list, is my brother, can any of you guess which one is him?

Yes ive listened to channel U, (ok skipped past it on me way to Flaunt!!)

And i reckon Kaiser is your brother cos one of me favourite bands is the Kaiser Chiefs and your name is Ka-rim and his could be Ka-iser, but on a whole if i was on millionaire and this was for 125 grand id probably walk away with the 64 grand check, as my effort is pretty lame!!

Like family fortunes - Our Survey says - X

But I liked the reasoning from both you guys, at least you actually gave it some thought!!  But sorry, you are wrong!!

If you have SKY go to channel 467 now, and you will see just how many artists there are that you guys dont know about, with decent videos (all their own money, not a record label shelling out to promote the release of a new song).

As for which one is my bro, I tried to think of a clue, but I just dont have one for you lot :p
