Fastest database server for a web application - Oracle,slq server,my sql or access

Which is the fastest database server amongst the above mentioned four if you expect an upward of 1000 people to access the data in one of those databases sometimes simutaneously?

Oracle perhaps, but then, you need to pay expensive license, and then again, this is a question for slashdot.com!

Mysql should do that more than fine, I think the worst thing about it won't be the software running in the server, but the hosting itself, bandwidth etc, etc.

I was asked this question during an interview yesturday and i said that oracle would be too slow for a web application.

Mysql was my answer.

The problem is that the company specializes in oracle products and training.But they also do web development using the linux/php/mysql platform...so i guesed i should go for mysql.
The truth is that i specialize in microsofts products that is vb.net and sql server 2000.But i didnt dare show my inclinations.
The good news is that i started out doing php/mysql development but that was a long time ago but it really helped :)
