great talent but I think theres something empty about a man who spends his whole life talking about what he did when he was in his twenties. All he ever talked about was his footballing days. he should have moved on when he got older. Being 40 still leaves plenty of adventures ahead as opposed to the same old "where did it all go wrong" stories.

I don't think he is a bad man but don't think there is anything that good about him either. In fact, I now many better people than him (but they can't trap a football!!!)

Yeah, like Gazza, Best will always be a tragic figure. There's something very pathetic about a guy who's life seems to have gone downhill since the age of 26 (or whatever it was) when he retired (from the top level). Best could never move on and the drink destroyed him.

There were other great players like Kenny Daglish who went on to have further success as managers when they retired, and even guys like Bobby Charlton who never made much of themselves in the sport after they retired were still able to lead happy and contented lives.

Best is tragic as I think his life was wracked with regret that he wasted much of his career and he turned to the bottle for comfort. I can see Gazza doing the same.

I have to say that I am with PEEWEE on this one.

I will not shed a tear for his passing, not only has he wasted his own life with Drink, he wasted that of another. You see when he took that organ, someone else on the waiting list missed out. What happened to that person, wether they lived or died I dont know, but they may have.

I feel sorry for the family and their loss, but not for Best.

It's always sad to see the passing of someone who had some kind of influence.I am sad that he has died and have paid my respects on the other thread. However, I am in the Peewee, Leon camp.

In purely football terms, as a lover of the beautiful game, it's sad to see one of the all time greats pass away, however George Best the man left a lot to be desired, he really did waste his life once his football career finished.

R.I.P to a footballing legend.  Thoughts go out to his friends and family. 

He never did anything to harm anybody but himself, the guy should be solely remembered on what he could do with a football.

I don't mean to disrepsect a man who has died, but to try and make him out as some sort of model citizen is a little naive.

I do agree however that George Best the footballer deserves respect.
