Dwayne Chambers will jump out from the crowd and run past the winning line.

Look at the medal tallies, how can Chinese athletes suddenly be the pick of the best?

Easy. The chinese government has invested USD$ 8 BILLION in athlete development over the last 8 years.

Just shows that throwing money at a problem does work and that they must have developed some great drugs.

It's easy to be motivated to go for gold, when the punishment for silver is death by firing squad.

I think there are few newkitters who give a fúck about basketball, but at least Joe Terp does!

The USA basketball team is a credit for their basket. The so called "Redeem team" is dominating unlike their countrymates in previous olympics. And they have the right attitude. Spain will be able to pose a bit more opposition than others but as we speak, the americans are the best and are a joy to watch.

Hell of a game the other night, mate--Spain winning in over-time against the hosts.  Some quality players in the Spain squad and I think they'll give the US a few problems (but ultimately come up short). :nod

Canadian Olympic Watch:

Day: 7

Medals: 0

Standings: Tied for 53rd

Highlight of the games so far: after much hype from the Canadian media one of our numpty swimmers misses out on a bronze in the 200M breast stroke by 1/100th of a second because he didn't completely stretch for the wall.

The national mood:

On BBC website:

A reminder that if you are in the UK and want to make sure you don't miss the big Olympic events of the day on BBC television, you can text the word ALERTS to 81008, and you will receive a couple of texts per day, for free, telling you to stick your telly on (or watch this website) because it's about to start. Nice.

That's sound that - stops you watching any old shyte.

We were very strong about 20 years ago, mate, but that was in the Olympics (know feck all about the Commonwealth games :D). Believe it or not, we were also very strong in sprinting in the not so distant past.  We won the 100M gold in Seoul (88) thanks to steroids:

But then managed to win it again cleanly in Atlanta (96)

Both lads were Jamaican by birth, BTW.  The beauty of being a multicultural nation!  :buttrock

Only 547 days until the start of the Winter Olympics, though! :buttrock

And I see the Vancouver hippies have pulled out all the stops with the official mascots. :kungfu:
