Bear in mind that any striker we sign wouldn't have to be the biggest investment in the world. Baros and Cisse are an awesome proposition up front, and I'd have no qualms about them being my first choice strike force.
What we are talking about is good quality cover that you could rely on to come in and do a job in the rotation system. Personally I think Vassell would score bucketloads if he was in a team that could offer him a regular supply line of quality passes. You've all seen the damage he does at international level, and I think it's naive to suggest that he wouldn't convert that form into domestic competition. Similarly Rooney, although he's clearly not a realistic target.
I certainly think that Vassell's better than Smith, who's basically the same player as Heskey, with all the problems that implies. If we're talking about a 3rd or 4th striker for rotation purposes, how would you guys feel about Robert Earnshaw or Jon Stead? I certainly don't think we'd need to invest heavily. For that matter, we could just recall Le Tallec and throw all the transfer cash at the genuine problem areas in midfield and at the back.
