International Football/Football World Wide - General Discussion

How the hell can you change the weight and other physical features of the ball before the world cup?

Those guys in FIFA should be shot, those stupid horns shouldn't have been allowed either.

Glad Forlan won the player of the tournament, he deserved it.

There are too many teams in the tournament, go back to 24. The extra AFrican and Asian teams are jokes.

I think the most games the African teams have won between them is four in one World Cup, usually by their sole decent representation. Even though they had a record six teams in the competition, still only one progressed beyond the first round.

Asia did ok, CONCACAF did their usual next to nothing and yet some want even more teams in the finals!?!?!?

FIFA won't go back to 24, if they did it would be at the expense of UEFA teams I'm sure. Not so sure CONMEBOL (South America) should get FIVE places, albeit one play-off and four automatic, in a region that boasts only 10 teams.

32 is probably the right number, I just think they should do more inter-zonal play-offs, making some/more of the automatic places for Africa, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF and Asia play Europe and other regions for places. That way all places are truly earned, adds a bit more spice just before the event itself, and teams will get a chance to play teams they might not otherwise play unless they qualified for the finals and maybe not even then.

FIFA make too much money to go back to 24 teams. The bigger it is the bigger the global appeal, the bigger the revenue, the greater the power Blatter has, the greater the corruption. Perfect.

the guy couldn't win. if he'd sent players off he'd have got slaughtered for "ruining the spectacle".

the players' behaviour on both sides was an absolute disgrace. it was an impossible job.

i thought the only mistake that webb made was getting the first yellow card out a little too early. there was some rough tackles going in but i think he should have made some hard and clear warnings first, and then have no hesitation in sending players off if they didn't toe the line. once the cards were out he had no choice but to keep getting them out for every hard tackle, and despite some appalling challenges from the dutch he could've avoided carding a couple of them.

having said that, van bommel and de jong in particular were very lucky to stay on the field and heitinger was just stupid. i don't think the spanish were play acting any more than any other team - if i'd been on the receiving end of some of those 'tackles' i'd probably have gone down like a sack of spuds as well.

rubbish game all in all, but great party in the streets afterwards :D

He does have a habit of trying to keep a full set of players on each side in finals so in that respect he done a good job. Although im sure had he seen that Karate kick on Alonso from a different angle he would have dismissed him immediatley.
