You carry on being ignorant towards Mexico, we'll see...we'll see.

You do realize that Mexico are going to get knocked out at the group stages now don't you?  You've built them up into a footballing colossus and stuck your neck way out on this one...don't be surprised when it blows up in your face!  :no  :D

Bob, I haven't made Mexico out to be anything more than geniune title contenders and that's what they are. Football is a funny old game, anything could happen.

Thanks, LFC, I want to see how Kromkamp fairs for Holland on the big stage. As I haven't seen enough of him for us.

Top scorer?

Ronaldo for me.
Know a lot of people have written him of but IMO.....

Fat Ron is the BEST finisher in the business. Plus he'll be hungry to emulate other brazillian greats and he's in a position to break some of their records. He's always placed greater importance to the brazillian national team. Plus, could be his last WC and brazil have a tendency to want their attackers young.... (Romario not withstanding)

Here's to the FAT hope that Rafa'll be able to get him from Madrid and whip his fat ar$e in shape!

:D

get your money on david villa folks. :D

thanks for bringing this bet to my attention. Had a couple of quid on him. I got 29/1 aswell

They will not get anywhere near to winning the tournament i am absolutely certain of that.
I could see your point if you were saying that they are dark horses to go far, perhaps semi's. I would still disagree with you but would respect your opinion, after all there is often a surprise team in the latter stages of the tournament.
I used the word surprise because that is exactly what it would be if they went as far as that.
Contenders for the title they are not, despite the old cliche of its a funny old game.
I understand that underdogs can win major tournaments the champions league final last year highlighted that, but Mexico dont have the quality of players that even Liverpool have.
And how often is teh world cup won by a massive underdog ?
I cant remember one tbh.

Mexico are not a bad team, I think they beat Brazil last 3 times they have played. Not my tip for last 4 places but in with a shout. Good team, low expectation, no pressure (Then again they are probably down as favourites in Mexico lol). Think I will stick with my last 4 ....England / Brazil /Germany/ Holland. :D

Fair enough, that's your opinion. My opinion is that they are a good side, who play good football and on there day can beat anybody that plays them. However they can also be like England and not make much of a serious challenge at all. They are dark horses, that's exactly what they are Ace, under dogs, dark horses a useless pawn on the chessboard. However they can play and they will play, who knows where they will end up, QF, SF or even Final.

But from what I've seen from this current Mexico team is one that can produce upsets, a team that turn up and play quite frankly play some great football with a high standard of quality. They are not at this WC to make up the numbers, they are here to play and win games and I believe they can do it, I also believe they are a genuine threat to the title and I'm more than likely going to be correct.

Mexico can beat anyone if they are up for the game but if they can also lose, I'm not saying they are unbeatable, however to sit there and write them off is quite frankly stupid. England, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Holland and France are all team that can win it, then you can stick Mexico next to them as well as Sweden.

What do you mean Mexico don't have the quality Liverpool have? How can you come to that conclusion when you, yourself have stated earlier in this thread you have rarely seen them play? You may think Mexico don't have quality players but they do, I suggest you watch some of Mexico's matches thru out this World Cup campaign. Are they not quality because they don't play in Europe? Are they not quality players because they aren't well known like Ronaldinho is and Ronaldo is? Not everyone can play in Europe and not everyone will play in Europe. Just because the large majority of Mexico's squad don't play for a top European club or a European club doesn't mean they are not good, quality players.

Good point Ace, I can't remember either, but how many countries have been branded "contenders" and failed to live up to the hype? I can count on both my hands and keep going. As I said I didn't particulary want to keep talking about this, so I'm not bothering now. If you believe Mexico aren't contenders, aren't good enough, don't have the players then fair enough.

I disagree, but on this note, I will agree to disagree with you on this one and we shall see where England end up and where Mexico end up.

TBH I don't want Mexico to do well cos it may effect Portugal's chances.

For your sake though Oasis I hope they do otherwise you're in for a slaughtering.  :D

lol.

I happily take that slaughtering, LFC. I can except when I'm wrong, so I expect the usual ppl to give me a hard time. I've watched this team quite a lot and I think I'm capable of making a clear decision on how I think they will fair, but if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, If I'm right then I'm right.

Altho if it was a final between England and Mexico, then I'd happily see Mexico lose.

0asis I dont think you should be slaughtered for having an opinion and being brave enough to state it. You obviously think you have seen something in Mexico that others may have missed theres nothing wrong with that surely.

There's nothing wrong with having an opinion. And there is also nothing to say that your opinion wont be right. In our own heads is clear as crystal but we are just fans with limited knowledge.
I accept that Mexico may shock me and that they may have better players than i am aware of, but the fact that they are not playing in Europe actually does mean something, for one it means that they are either not as good as the other south american players or that there better players are young and havent had the oppurtunity to show what they can do yet.
But dont think that the fact that them not playing in Europe doesnt mean anything because it does. The style of play and tempo of games that they are used to will be different as will the pitches and climate, all of these things are going to be in favour of the European teams. That is the reason i think a European team will go all the way.
Brazil are massive favourites and rightly so, the reason imo is that not only do they have the best players but also the majority of there squad play in Europe so they are used to the conditions and pitches and also playing different styles of football. But i still feel that they wont win the tournament, they will bow out on penalties against a European side like Italy i think. Mexico wont have players with the same experience of European football as Brazil or Argentina and that will make the difference, just my opinion, but if Mexico are as good as you think they are then after the tournament is finished i would expect alot more of the players to be playing in this continent next season.

I'm not bothered, I'm mature enough to handle it.  :D
