At least we will not have to suffer from the club being represented by Morgan's wife, he probably would have given her a seat on the board.
Let's also hope that Parry knows what he is doing here and that we do not end up with no decent bid or one that takes so long to mature that we miss our opportunity to srengthen the team in time to qualify for the 05/06 CL.

Tycoon Steve Morgan has abandoned his £70m bid to take control of Liverpool.

His lawyer told the Liverpool Echo: "Steve has lost patience with the board using his offer as a stopgap while they look for a better one."

Morgan has been trying to invest in the club for several years and made his first official bid in May.

In August, a new deal was agreed in principle but it fell through after Morgan carried out business checks on Liverpool's finances.

Those investigations revealed the cost of their proposed new stadium had risen from £80m to £115m.

At the beginning of December, he told the club the offer was still on the table, and that a significant sum of money would be available for manager Rafael Benitez to buy players.

But on Tuesday, his lawyer said: "Mr Morgan is no longer prepared to be used as as stalking horse.

"Although his earlier offers were to invest all £70m directly into the club this was not acceptable to the chairman.

"Steve has had enough. He has got other things to do with his life."

liverpool has started to look like a cheap channel 5 soap opera lately. maybe its because we are such a big club with one of the best historys in the history of the game, but all the lacklustre opinions and 'will he wont hes' with our club does just become annoying. i just wanna watch some good football. benitez is helping us out with this so can the beaurucrats just do what they do behind closed doors please?

Couldn't agree more. The man has no respect for what Moores has tried to do in his own honest albiet occasionally flawed way. Liverpool don't need a self made barrow boy treating Liverpool like his new toy.
Moores for all his failings deserves respect from Morgan. His failure to do so has rightly earned him contempt from the board.

He may have better things to do in his life, but Liverpool football club has better things to do that to hand over to wealthy lout who thinks he's suddenly an expert at running football clubs. At the end of the day, Morgan didn't just want to invest, he wanted to run things.

Benitez was the very best man Liverpool could have hoped to attract. Houllier looked a decent apointment at the time and started well. The board backed him with cash, but unfortunatly despite giving him a decent amount of time (which they should be comended for) he couldn't deliver and squandered money on poor players. The board and Moores were right to give him time and give him cash, however wrong it went. They were right to recruit Benitez, hopefully they will back hm and it will work out.

The board are doing a decent job..they need the support of the fans, not a barrow boy calling them out!

totally f*ckin agree St. Mike, in fact you beat me to it. my post would have consisted of much the same thing but probably with more swearing in  :D

just to re-iterate to ADE, Morgan has shown no respect for LFC, and this has now come to be true, sayin that "he has better things to do." i realise a man may get impatient in a situation like his, but it just sums him up. i'm f*ckin made up.

where does all this "i'd rather a lifelong, thru and thru red scouser take over"  come from???   he's a welsh-boy for a start. not that it matters but why blag you're a scouser.? the whole thing just stunk of some Megolomaniac using deceit and intimidation to get what he wants.

i also agree that Moores and co. were right to Give Houllier the money to do what he needed. its a risk we all know but its only in hindsight that you say it was bad. if you are gonna emply someone for LFC, notice that's LFC you have to support him. you dont back off for fear of having made the wrong judgement. you make your decision and back it wholeheartedly. if it fails, so be it. a mistake was made and we have to move on. thats what we're doing now by recruiting Benitez. some people may say that its a hell of a costly mistake to make and they dont want it again etc. but again, if you're sure in your decision in the first place, to appoint someone as manager, you dont hold back with your trust. what if he's the right man?? he'd fail if you didnt trust him and give him wedge to spend. i dont think LFC make rash decisions and everything is thought about carefully. i think they have faith in the judgement and back them wholeheartedly. mistakes are made, we cant avoid them by being tight.

It's quite simple.

He made public the cost of the new stadium to lower the value of the club. That is not the action of a true fan.

Right along the same lines as what I believe lads, didn't like the way he handled himself and it just goes to show the board and David Moores were totally right in not accepting his offer.

Postby Ola Mr Benitez » Tue Dec 21, 2004 4:47 pm

I don't know anything about him except he has loads of money he wants to give to us but we don't want to take it.  Or should I say "he had"...
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On
