He did put in one fine tackle, but I don't remember him doing much else. The ease with which Sunderland got at us says it all about how protective Lucas was.

Wouldn't you say the same about Gerrard though?

Good point ,what's your considered assessment of what Gerrard offered today Red end ? If you like I can possibly sum it up in a few bullet points.
1 Decent corner for our first ,and an exceptionally beautiful ball for Sturridge.
2,Nutmegged again....first signs of tiredness.
3,The tackles for column ,for all those budding stat freaks would be embarrassingly sparse ,if not empty.
4.His eagerness to defend when Toure was off the field ,nearly resulted in one tired pathetically weak header looping under our own bar.
5.He trudged off the pitch absolutely goosed.

Judgement:  second half liability, and not for the first time this season.

Actually, RedlucasGoggles, this is the Lucas thread. I obliged Damjan, since he's polite and I could incorporate Lucas into my reply.

For me, Gerrard was awful even in the first half. He lost possession and misplaced passes. He lacked the pace to compete with pretty much everyone of Sunderland's team. But he had an assist and an important long ball, so it's difficult to fault him. I think that we'll have similar midfield problems without Lucas as well. Even bigger maybe. Luckily, it's only against C.Palace.

???

Gerrard had a really good game, he was the only midfielder who was running inside the box waiting for a pass to come to him

Gerrard had a pretty good game today, was picking out some nice passes and linked well with the attacking players. It seems their is some sort of 'Gerrard is finished' bandwagon on this board, but he is still miles better than are other central midfielders, i cant believe anyone can even compare his and Lucas performance today, Gerrard was so much more influential

:D

I agree to disagree mate, thought he was influential and pushed forward when he had the ball. Did very well with his passing too

Didn't make a tackle throughout mate ,and a complete passenger in the second half .So I will have to go along with your first suggestion ,and
we can firmly concur to disagree ....... Still love ya though, even with those gigs on   :D

Just like Lucas in the first?

Another dog average performance from him. You're other boy Henderson wasn't much better today either. Ran the f*cking ball out of play for an opposition corner at one point. Absolutely shocking play. Couldn't believe that. :no

Am not being funny either Red, but telling other lads you love them on the forum in public is a bit creepy... :D

The thing with Gerrard though is that he may have been creative but we needed more control in that position. Our game at the moment looks shaky, and we rely on moments of brilliance. If we had played a better team, we would struggle for possession...

I love that Lucas tried the disappointed act when he was booked. :D

He would have known he was one away from a ban and that a home game against Crystal Palace was up next. I'm sure even Rodgers would have been encouraging him to get booked and take the ban for the Crystal Palace game instead of risking picking up a yellow in that game and missing Newcastle (away) game.
