I 'm no expert but I don't think fitness has much bearing on a groin strain/tear. It can happen to anyone at anytime whilst playing sport

how fit he is though will determine the recovery process.
im no expert either but would have thought muscle fatigue can lead to injury. it isnt like an ankle or knee where you would either have to roll on it or take a knock to aggravate it.
anyway at his age it is a common enough injury.

The vast majority of injuries are subject to fitness. Muscle strains are a result of either over-stretching (which is subject to how well conditioned your muscle is) or stretching whilst the muscle is contracting (I.e. changing direct very dramatically)

The footage from Toure's injury last night is inconclusive, apart from the fact he pulls up whilst sprinting. It could have been the result of poor conditioned muscles finally giving way or just over stress to the muscle, after all Toure is not a spring chicken - his aged muscles will experience far more stress than a youth player.

A good friend of mine was the 1st team sports therapist for Brighton (he left at the end of last season to work in Australia), he used to tell me even the best professionals he had encountered would skip treatments, massages, hide minor niggles that if worked on would prevent bigger injuries. He had a bit of a reputation of delivering a bed of pain when he treated, many of the players would rather risk the bigger injury to avoid the treatment that wasn't that pleasant.

I used to get him to treat my Saturday league ankle injuries, so f*cking painful but the recovery time was brilliant.

Chill out.

I don't think I have ever witnessed anyone wishing an injury on a Liverpool player - I thought most would realise it was a typo but some ( or one ) will always try and create something.

As for his injury I think it looked like an over stretch plus an awkward landing , just one of those things. The recovery period will be extended a bit because of his age - not sure if he has had groin injuries before so hopefully it won't need an op.

We shouldn't be at a stage when we are having to rely on Toure - he should be our back up. Now we are really struggling.

Benny, are you prepared to retract this statement or do you still believe it was Toure's fault?

Yet he lost Benteke in the last couple of mins which nearly cost us bar a great save from Mignolet

maybe yakka was right to question his fitness even though i thought it wouldnt be a problem as he looked flying fit up till last night. i suppose his fitness can really be gauged now by the amount of time it takes him to recover.

I don't think fitness was the issue and his recovery will be more down to his age - if it is torn then it could be a couple months.

Your reluctance to answer the question tells me you know you're wrong.

Next time, try and be man enough to admit it though.  :;):

Glad we've cleared that up, at last.

I actually think that piece of play (if I'm thinking the same as the two of you) was great defending by Toure, albeit last ditch, it made the area that Benteke had to strike at much smaller than it would have been if Toure didn't try to get back

I'll go as far as saying that I would have rather had Agger injured instead of Toure. Massive loss for us. I hear he'll be out for at least a month.

Wisdom won't be able to cope with the attacks of the mancs, but I hear that Skrtel will be fit so that's good to hear.

Serious tear I have seen on the twitter grapevine out for 1-2 months dependant on how quick he recovers.

No idea about any operation that would be needed. Think Gerrard was out for 3-4 months when he needed an op

skrtel will be physically fit but he`s hardly played any football (even in pre-season), he`s going to be pretty rusty.
but as you say there`s no way wisdom could cope with van persie and rooney at this stage of his career so i think we`ll have to hope skrtel hits the ground running.
