Bill Shankly was treated awfully by the club when he left. He wasnt even allowed to attend games at Anfield. Rafas treatment of Alonso wasnt far off cruel either. And if we go by the rumours of the treatment of Meireles and the broken promises made to him, it would be fair to say, this club isnt the holiest when it comes to treatment of staff.

Shankly was allowed to attend games at Anfield

Treatment of Alonso cruel ?! Are footballers that precious now that looking to sell a player is now cruel ?!

And Meireles signed his contract and "previous" owners said they would give him a wage rise not the current ones ?!

Your right, he was allowed to attend Anfield, it was the training ground he was banned from. My mistake, I got mixed up.

Alonso was treated cruelly as his kid was being born and, well, we all know the rest. And Meireles, no, sorry. This argument doesnt stick. He was made a promise, and the club promised it and duly broke it.
Bill Shankly: “I was the best manager in Britain because I was never devious or cheated anyone. I’d break my wife’s legs if I played against her, but I’d never cheat her.”

Is anyone else worried with the rigid 4-3-3 system that we simply havent the players to score enough goals. Will Brendan never revert back to 4-4-2 or 4-3-1-2 if we go behind or chasing the game. Also we need other players especially in the  midfield to start chipping in with goals.

If anything BR's 4-3-3 is not rigid... and no, not after 2 league games, one of which we dominated City...

it isnt rigid @ all.

cant see him ever resorting to 4-4-2 though.  He clearly doesnt like that formation!

Rodgers comments today about it not being ideal to have a £35 million quid back-up striker on £6 million a year would suggest that the club will do their best to push through this supposed deal on the table from West Ham. Maybe Andy will smell the coffee and put minutes on the pitch ahead of any hope or desire to prove he belongs at LFC. He isn't the squad for tomorrow night so they must be looking to move the lad on before the window.

west ham mate? i cant see carroll going to west ham even on loan never mind a permanent deal, newcastle is a different kettle of fish though, they are his club and the club he dreamt about playing for when he was growing up, i dont even think he wanted to leave them in the first place but he was shoved out the door because newcastle wanted the money.
it just depends if newcastle put in an acceptable bid for him, they came in recently with a lowball offer that had our owners etc spitting feathers, if they come back with an offer around the £17m mark i think a deal will happen..
by all reports andy is not in the squad tomorrow so that suggests a deal is close to being done.

Rodgers talks a lot of sense and seems totally sure of what he wants so i wouldn't be at all surprised to see Carroll on his way. Cash in the bank, wage bill reduced, who can he bring in to replace him to score goals.

Meantime, 300 pages on the Carroll thread, one for every minute he's played.

Rodgers tells Carroll to leave or sit on the bench

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted he is still looking to sell Andy Carroll before the transfer window closes - because he is not his first-choice striker.
Carroll's future has been the subject of rampant and prolonged speculation throughout the summer, after Rodgers admitted that he had doubts about the £35 million forward's suitability to his tactical system at one of his first press conferences as Reds boss.
West Ham and Newcastle both subsequently expressed initial interest in the England international, but the Magpies' offer was dismissed - while Carroll reportedly refused a move to Upton Park.

The towering forward has since proven a useful substitute option for Liverpool in their opening competitive fixtures of the season, but Rodgers has now suggested that the club cannot afford to have such a valuable player on the bench for long.
As such, he feels it might be best for the player to leave if he wants regular first-team football.
When asked if Carroll would depart the club this week, the Daily Express quoted Rodgers as saying: "It is too early to say. I can only be straight with a player on where he stands.

"You don't need to be a rocket scientist to see Andy has been a cover player for us.
"He has been excellent in terms of his attitude and his acceptance of where he is at. But I'm not sure we are in a position to have £35m players as third-choice strikers or wingers who might be on £6m a year. I don't think the club are in that position.
"The club needs to repair financially."

Rodgers' comments about wingers suggests the club will also look to move on the likes of Stuart Downing and Joe Cole before the transfer deadline, while Stoke City have reportedly made a bid for Charlie Adam.
West Ham have indicated they are still interested in a last-minute deal for Carroll, even though he has made it clear he does not want to leave Anfield.
The two clubs, though, have agreed a £20 million package should the England striker be convinced to change his mind.
That deal would see West Ham take Carroll on a season-long loan initially, paying his £80,000-a-week wages in full, and then sign him permanently for £17 million if they avoid relegation.

Rodgers admits he needs to sell before he can buy new players - with targets including Fulham forward Clint Dempsey and Arsenal winger Theo Walcott.

"I'm not in a position to buy without selling first," Rodgers noted. "This is an incredible club so players who come here, even if you want to move them on, are not just going to walk out of the door."

Reg the problem is that in 21 league appearances last season Andy scored 4 goals. Getting somebody to score goals is a no brainer. Getting somebody to replace Andy is far from a priority.Andy put in some decent cup performances but that simply wasn't enough to justify his massive £80k per week. It's not just Any though that is a problem to LFC. Cole on £90k a week! Downing close to a £100k per week! Sh.it we have made some terrible mistakes over the last couple of years. At least BR can see that and is making the right noises to rectify the problem.
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )
LFC €300m (€420m)
Everton +€33m (€211m)
Arsenal €557m (€853m)
Spurs €571m (€684m)
Chelsea €945m (€1051m)
Man City €370m (€1038m)
Man United €687m (€1240m)

Getting rid of Carroll is a mistake. Looking at Fellaini and how he tore the filth a new ar$ehole at Goodison shows there is absolutelt a need for a Plan B, once other team figure out how to stop LFC's Plan A. Carroll's performances at the end of last season showed he was up for it and could make a contribution. And if BR's motivational skills are anything to shout about, then he should make the right noises and get Carroll up for it.

He costs 80K per week, hardly a huge amount in the context of the rest of the team. He's a young lad who can get better with the right coaching and discipline.

We have Downing and Cole on ridiculous salaries and neither has delivered a single, decent performance since they were signed.
We have Spearing, admittedly on less, who won't get a game. We have youngsters who need Championship experience to blood them before they can be considered for a future with the club or not.

Bad, bad move BR. I don't agree with this....

Carroll isnt in Rodgers Plan A and is to expensive to be sitting on the bench especially when that money could be put into providing a player Rodgers wants.

I like Carroll I think he is a great player. However if Rodgers doesnt see a place for him other than the bench we should support our new manager
