we probably only lack 2 things to be title contenders, a genuine goalscorer and some bottle, our players throw the towel in too easily.
but looking at those names on paper we should be up there with the top sides.
i hate to say it but if you gave alex ferguson those players (suarez, gerrard, sahin, lucas, agger, skrtel, reina, johnson, allen, carroll etc) i bet he`d go close to winning it.

We also lack creativity and a bit of direct play... We need a wide player and a forward. I still dont know where Sahin fits but my guess is that Lucas will be the one to give way.

I think Downing gives way.  You have a middle three of Sahin, Allen and Lucas, and 3 up top with Gerrard, Suarez, and Borini, and if any other rumors are to be heard then the option of Adam Johnson or Clint Dempsey to step in as well, and Assiadi as well I guess.  Gerrard won't last every game obviously, and Borini isn't ready to start every game, plus suspension and injury, we've actually got a bit of depth in the offense for once.  A couple extra wide players and Gerrard who can drop to the middle, as well as Hendo, Adam, and if Shelvey doesn't go on loan than him as well.

Like all fellow fans, I'm excited with the arrivals of Assaidi and now Sahin(hopefully). But these guys are midfielders and we're repeating the same mistakes Kenny made last summer ie buying more and more midfielders into a team overcrowded with midfielders. I have no doubt with Sahin, Assaidi, Allen, Suarez, Gerrard and maybe Sterling in the team we'll create lots of goal scoring opportunities, but why are we NOT signing a striker who can bury the chances created? That is the big question. Why are we still making the same mistake of signing more midfielders? I am not saying we do not need quality midfielders but Brendan should make signing a good striker the top priority.

I don't think Gerrard is seen as part of the front three, I think he is seen as the forward most midfielder, despite his successful season on the right all those years ago.

In our current squad, I'd agree.  In a squad with 4 class CM's in Gerrard, Lucas, Sahin and Allen, I can see him pushed out wide.  Rogers is clearly willing to try something different, switching Downing to the right (A decision I agree with when it comes to Downing) and even as a full back. I also noticed that when Downing would push forward, Agger switched to LB and Spearing dropped in with Carra in the back, pretty much shifting us to a 4-4-2 to ensure we couldn't be caught on the counter.

I think he'd give Stevie a go as the right sided attacker, or even in the middle as a supporting striker.

I still cant understand the urge that people have for moving our best players out of position just to accommodate new arrivals. And that not only extends to Sahin (if it happens) but also to BR. I think we need to address our problematic positions and shifting Gerrard to a wide role, Borini/Suarez to a wide role or playing Downing as a fullback are not realistic long term options. Might work for a game or two but not as a strategy to implement throughout a season.

That setup you suggested is for all intents and purposes a diamond 4-4-2. No resemblance to the 4-3-3 people believed Rodgers would bring eith him from Swansea with direct and tricky wide players creating the opportunities and dragging defenders out of position. I dont think Gerrard should (or will) play the wide role consistently and unless we bring in a better forward than him, neither should Suarez (and he probably wont).

I dont think a trio of Allen, Sahin and Lucas would have the balance needed to get us going down both ends. All 3 of them have a similar game and to be honest i can see it going down to a choice of 2. For me, Sahin and Allen would get the nod.

One more thing, IF we do decide to go with Gerrard as a wide attacking option then I cant see him taking Downing's place. Would probably replace Borini who is yet to prove he offers anything in terms of goal threat or even simple build up play. He's young and all that but throwing him in the starting lineup until he comes good might not be the best way forward.

Gerrard's proven in the past he can play on the right.  I don't think Downing be playing fullback, I was just pointing out that Rogers is willing to try people in different places.  And the 4-4-2 I was talking about isn't your classic 4-4-2.  All I was saying was that a cm drops back to cover, and a cb pushes out wide.  We've essentially added another quick player on the wing, and dropped our dcm.  If anything that gives us more on the wings.

I dont' think Borini will be playing week in week out either.  I don't expect him to see the pitch this weekend.

And I feel Allen and Sahin are both creative enough, Allen is a good tackler, and Lucas would top it off.  Sahin can play as the more forward Cm.

this line up could work and people say about playing players out of position but why do they have to stick to the one region of the pitch, barcelona dont stick to one particular area, they move into space. with gerrard playing were ive put him he could easily move inside and have sahin going wide aswell as borini pulling in and sahin changing with him. the squad is very adaptable

                          Reina
     Johnson         agger          skrtel      Enrique

                       Lucas            allen
                                  Sahin
Gerrard                                                  borini
                                 suarez

jones, doni, carragher, coates, kelly, shelvey, henderson, sterling, downing, assiadi carroll

awesome line up

From what i have seen so far, we are playing 4-3-3 formation, with 1 anchoring behind a middle 2, 2 on the wings and 1 up top. Previous pictures are of the rafa classic 4-2-3-1. Rogers is a 4-3-3 and we havent Appointed him to change his style of football. As others have said, i can see lucas anchoring behind allen and sahin, gerro and for me sterling on the wings (it will prob be borini til dempsy or johnson sign) and the main man up top. Simples...!!

It's good to know that we are putting up a fight for our targets when some other club tries to hijack a deal........

I'm guessing there is no option to buy clause. Shame as if he turns out to be useful player for us, but hopefully by next season we can afford to splash out a bit more again.

I believe there is a clause in there... But my only source for this at the monent is a discussion I heard on talk sport on the way home from work..........

However mus season long loans have such a clause, but as we know from the experience of Aqua it's never a done deal...
