We made it happen when we put carrol in the shop window and asked clubs to bid for him.

I must have missed that ,you see I thought it was the media who placed him firmly in the shop window ....Rodgers just talked about loan moves in general .
It seems the fact today he has come out and eulogised Carroll's ability would definitely leave massive holes in your guess work .

No somke without fire there. No way newcastle would have thought about bidding if they didnt think they could get him.

I hope you're not naive enough to think that the Geordies would put in a loan offer on the back of news in tabloids...

Henry made a statement earlier this week about the decision lying in BR's hands. I'm certain he has told BR to MAKE that decision and hence this nice little quote from BR.

The bottom line is that we will not get anything in the region of £20m for Carroll until he proves he is worth the cash. Other clubs have learnt from our mistake in his valuation

The irony being that if he does indeed prove he is worth £20m, then he won't be going anywhere

Remember how good Alonso was in his last season because Benitez had tried to sell him in the summer? That's because he felt he had a point to prove. From what I've seen of Carroll his attitude is good, he gives 100 percent (when he's fully fit that is) and if he stays then I can see him having a good season.

He's not an ideal fit for Rodgers' style but surely we can adapt the system to him. Carroll has more to his game than winning it in the air.

The difference being Alonso is a world class player who was treated disgracefully by an oddball who didnt get that players have a life off the field (wanting to see his kid being born).

I want Andy to stay.. two reasons.

One; he started to show something at the end of the season, particularly the battering he gave to John Terry. The Anfield game in particular... no way has Terry ever been given a hiding like that before, and it was made all the more impressive given how good Terry was at the Euros. We should give him a season to see if there is anything there.. it would be premature to sell just as he showed signs of doing something.

Two; financially a sale is not worth it. We would lose an absolute fortune.. less than half of what Kenny paid for him. Therefore we may as well keep him (providing he doesnt disrupt Rodgers style of play) and see what we can do with him.

We need a reality check.

Even at his peak, we will NEVER get more than £20m for Carroll. The concept that we will only get half of what we bought him for, is a non-starter. The series of trades left us with a net profit and that point in time, it was the only thing that mattered.

Secondly, there is absolutely no chance of BR adapting his footballing approach of 20 years to suit Carroll. That style requires players with certain abilities. Carroll can play adequately with the ball at his feet. But BR's style requires far, far, far more than adequate competency.

At best, if he does score a few goals this year, we could sell him in the region of 15-20m.

£17 million on the table for Carroll...   will we be tempted? West Ham have stated they are willing to build a team around him. Think I'd hang out for improved offer as I can't think off the top of me bonce if they have a player we'd be interested in including in a cash + player deal.

They wish to loan him for a season for 2m, and then buy him for 15m if they aren't relegated. They are willing to match his 80k per week demands too. But it matters not if they have a player whom we could get in exchange as well, what bugs me is if they try to pull out of the deal or make sure he doesn't play enough games to trigger the fee. I'm just very skeptical of all these loan offers with option to purchase especially for players whom we bought for so much, and seeing how the proposed Aquilani transfers never materialized.

Agreed, that is definitely not the same as straight out 17 million or even in installments.

I'd be tempted with 17 million offer to purchase...Tbh

One thing is for sure, if there was ever a manager and a player suited to each other's style of play on paper it's Allardyce and Carroll.

I wouldnt accept that offer though, i wouldnt entertain any sort of loan whatsoever. Its completely pointless because with FSG's sell-to-buy policy the money raised from letting him go would be needed this transfer window to reinvest in players.

So let's try to understand this offer.

2m now, Carroll plays and they stay in the EPL - they pay us £15m at the end of the season.
2m now, Carroll plays and they get relegated - he's back to us and we have to try and offload him again (his stock would have dropped further)
2m now, Caroll plays but gets injured for most of the season and they stay up - West Ham do everything possible to cancel the deal claiming they were duped, cheated, etc etc etc (meaning we spend another summer next year in the papers for the wrong type of news)

Gold and Sullivan obviously have made a fortune outside of football, but they just do not belong in football. Absolute dirtbags and scumballs, coupled with stupidity and arrogance.

if we are going to follow the argument that andy carroll will never fit into rodgers system, then we also have to admit that danny graham is a better, more accomplished, and more mobile striker than he is. i don't actually believe this to be true. graham got his fair share of goals last season, but he also did a lot more of his work in the box than carroll did. he pressed from the front as anyone in a rodgers team will have to, but anyone who has been watching carroll properly will see that he is also very good at this. if he is also encouraged to get into the box more as graham was then i don't see problems in him scoring goals either.... and with his feet too.

It would be better if we just accepted 15 mill so we can move on.

the best thing is to keep him and play him, there are plenty of myths about him that are a load of rubbish, first one is he`s no good with the ball at his feet, he`s one of the best players in the league at holding up possession and he is quite decent on the floor as well, at the end of the season his distribution (especially his long passing) was really impressive and i tell you what it`s a pity our wingers and fullbacks cant cross a ball like andy carroll.
the next myth is he cant play in a high intensity pressing game, he works as hard as any forward in the game, for england there was only scott parker and steven gerrard that covered more distance than him and whatsmore he tracked back and won more possession back for england than the supposedly more `mobile` rooney and wellbeck. infact tracking back and catching opposition defenders and midfielders dawdling on the ball was starting to turn into one of the features of his game.
during the euro`s even neutral fans were ringing into phone in`s saying carroll did more against italy in half an hour than rooney and wellbeck did together the whole game. rodgers doesnt have to worry about carrolls work rate or pressing game, thats what carroll loves to do, he loves to get in there and get into centre halves faces, he loves to ruffle their feathers, wether it`s john terry, skrtel, soto, jagielka or whoever he`s all over them like a rash.
i wouldnt sell him i`d play him

If that is what will happen, it is actually very good for us because his value would have risen ...
