Carroll was anonymous in the match because Englabd sat 8 players deep 60 yards from him. But of course that's Carrolls fault.

The problem for big Andy, he couldn't trap a bag of cement hence the ball kept coming back at England. Ibrahimovic on the otherhand, the ball stuck to him like glue.

Big Andy needs to be in a team that asks much less of him by playing much further up the pitch (so he doesnt have to get involved in the build up which he cannot do) with him waiting in the box for the delivery. Its this limitation that jeopardised his position at the club the moment Rodgers took over.

He doesn't possess the basic skillset required to play in a team that demands more on the ball. Andy is a very good player in a team that plays in a style that suits him (Newcastle), unfortunately for him we removed him from that environment and he has suffered for it.

there's obviously no point trying to argue it with you, so i can only suggest that you go back and watch again the last few games that carroll played in. maybe, just maybe, you'll actually be able to see something through the mist of preconceptions.

remembered as one of the most catastrophic transfers in football history.

Your not talking about just buying a misfit for £35m on a lucrative 5 year
deal but the lad was injured when he signed and went on to cost both a
manager (club legend at that) and a director of football their jobs, not
to mention backroom staff.

This deal also forced Fenway to rethink its strategy and transfer policy of
the football club.

Its hard  to take any positives from this situation but if there is any crumb
of comfort its the hope that we will never go down this road again and Fenway
have learned a hard but valuable lesson.

I think people should get the idea of our £35 million pound signing staying as some sort of Plan B out of their heads. The insinuation is that Rodgers will abandon the tippy tappy approach to play a more direct approach when we're a couple of goals down, and for that reason alone it is worth keeping the lad to sit on the bench. You only have to listen to Rodgers speak in the last 12-18 months to hear how passionate he is about keeping possession of the ball. It's an ideology for him and I don't see there being a plan b in much the same way that Wenger has always stayed very true to his beliefs. Carroll might be the most dominant player in the air that we've seen in many a year and I'd say he is comfortably the best header of a ball in Europe BUT if you don't play to his strengths (ie. be willing to play diags, first time balls into his feet, flaoted delivery into the edge of the box, hig balls for knockdowns/flick-ons) then you're left with half a player. And of course you also have to factor in the economics. Let's safely assume that the Gaffer isn't a great fan, so the lad's value is only going to decrease if he's sitting on the bench. At the moment his stock his actually pretty high (higher than it has been since he signed) after a strong finish to last season and a fantastic goal at the Euros so NOW would be the best time to shift the lad on.

I can't see him losing value at this point.  He's really at his lowest value now, but if he continues playing near the level he did last season, his value will be able to go up.

well the "couldn't trap..." was a gross exaggeration... hes a 6 out of 10 on the ball which is nowhere near good enough. If he was good enough on the floor he would be part of the managers plans.

Luis Suarez plays alongside Cavani (linked today 35m to Chelsea), and Forlan for Uruguay... and with similar level players around him he looks imperious. He looks a level below when paired with Carroll. There isnt the fast, fluid link up when the lumbering geordie is next to him.

Carroll tells Liverpool he wants to stay
 

Andy Carroll has told Liverpool he wants to stay at Anfield rather than be sent out on loan or sold off in a cut-price deal.
 
Carroll is not interested in a return to Newcastle or a move south to London with either West Ham or Fulham. "Andy has told them that he does not want to move," an ESPN source said.
 
But Liverpool appear to have unofficially let it be known that they would accept £20 million for the England international.
 
However, the Reds might have to take an even bigger hit on the price before interested clubs such as Newcastle are willing to pay a transfer fee, plus the player's £80,000-a-week wages.
 
Liverpool bought Carroll for £35 million but the player does not appear to fit into new manager Brendan Rodgers' tactical strategy. There have been hints that Rodgers would not be adverse to loaning out the centre forward, but Liverpool would rather recoup part of the fee and use it to buy new players.
 
However, for now the club faces an obstacle in Carroll himself, who has let it be known that he wants to stay at Anfield and prove to Rodgers he can fit in.

I want Carroll to stay btw.... it would be grossly unfair to let him go without giving him a chance to see how he does in the new set up. His displays in the last few games showed an improvement. As i said i personally dont think he can adapt to a more demanding style of play that Rodgers brings, but we will only know for sure by keeping him for a season.
