Principle owner John W Henry of Fenway Sports Group insisted that the new man at the helm needed to be given time to build for the future at Anfield.

I fear we will need to endure short term hardship, for long term gain. Rodgers will need at least 3 seasons to turn our fortunes, not overnight.

So if die-hard kopites and the board start groaning, booing, and chopping and changing we will get absolutely nowhere I believe.

And have you spoken to the owners about a transfer budget?

Yes. There is money to spend. We haven't got the wheelbarrow overflowing. It's not falling out over the edges but there is money to spend. There are some terrific players here and big talents and I want to help improve them as players and as people. There will be some additions to improve and improve our way of playing as well.

Supporters here are desperate to get back in the Champions League - is that your own aim?

It's an aim for every manager at a top club. That's the holy grail, but also, in time, we want to be challenging for the title. For me, and it's not going to be straight away because that's not realistic, winning the title is something we want to achieve. It's not just aiming for fourth place. The Champions League is fantastic and that's where this club wants to be. It's going to be a process and ultimately, hopefully, that will take us up towards the top of the league and challenging. That's where this club belongs.

He's pushed all the right buttons thus far and I fully expect this season to be yet another topsey-turvey season, but hopefully Rodgers will improve our league standing this season, even the slightest bit of progression would be most welcome and also a cup wouldn't hurt either.

my take on rodgers. comes across very well. like the way he talks about the clubs traditions and how he wants us to play. it'll be interesting to see if he moulds us to try and play a bit like swansea.

I should think so. I mean they outplayed us twice and they did a number on Arsenal. With the right players I'm sure we'll excel under his management.

i mean in terms of the two fullbacks pushing really high up the pitch and the two centre halves splitting to either side of the box to pick the ball up off reina. i'm not sure we'll play out from the back every single time like swansea did. we'll definitely need a playmaker though that everything goes through, a bit like leon britton is for swansea though. lucas isn't that man as he's more all action.

also be interesting to see if carroll is a regular as swansea didn't play with a target man as they didn't really have that option. danyy graham ran in behind defences more and they obviously had the two wide players supporting him.

Again, it's important to assess the group, but having watched Liverpool I've certainly got an idea what could improve., that's for sure.

Apparently mr Henry employed a similar age manager for the red sox and they won 1st series for 86 years or somethin.
A fresh approach, management, new ideas might be a good thing.
We do have the nucleus of a top 4 side already.
I Dont like the target man approach, with carroll , and torres before, and I hope this changes

There's no reason why Carroll can't feature in the starting lineup. He is decent on his feet as we have seen a few times this season. We need some more creativity to play the way he wants so hopefully our signings will reflect that.

the lad certainly can handle the media which im sure fsg are delighted with.
he was strong in voicing his opinion on a dof and gets to bring his own people in so he can obviously negotiate.he also seems to get the history and expectations of the club and its fans so thats another plus.
his footballing philosophy is ideal for us so its going to be interesting how he utilizes what we have already here and id expect he will at least bring in 3 new faces.
he could be a legend here if he makes it work for us again.
he could be a fantastic choice for us and i hope he is but its one thing telling everyone what they want to hear and another making it work on the pitch and for me that is the most important factor,how we play and results is what its about.
im not expecting a whole lot next season in terms of the title or top 4 but its important that we finish in a higher standing and with more points in the bag than last year.anything less isnt progress.
he will face a test in convincing our players that he is the man as pepe has stated that half the team was hoping it would be rafa he has to keep them together as its a decent platform for any manager to inherit.
i have faith in him that he can succeed here so best of luck to him and can't wait till the season starts
