Four quality players short. Shearer said it... we have to address the striker issue and bring in quality.

it's obvious we need a goalscorer. i'd go out and get huntelaar. the lad's scored goals wherever he's been and wouldn't cost the earth like some other players.

reina, johnson, agger, skrtel, enrique, lucas, gerrard and suarez are easily good enough to be part of a top 4 team. the other three spots are up for debate though. we need quality out wide and i'd personally love to see hoilett come in from blackburn on a free. in central midfield i'd go for sigurdsson from hoffenhein (on loan at swansea). he's a class act.

I'm starting to feel however thought, that Kenny's tactics and training methods are also accountable. Right now it is way too easy to play against LFC. What do you do? pack the defence, defend for 85 mins and hit them on the counter attack.

Our pressing game under Kenny is dangerous because we do not score when we have the chances. When we get more and more desparate, our defence line is really high up. This leave alot of space for opponents. Reina must be sick and tired of what's happening.

If we would have won yesterday KK would have been a genius with 3 straight wins.
How do you account for the chronic inability to score and the demonic curse of hitting the woodwork so often? The answer is you cant. We have created more chances and had more opportunities to score than any other team. However that also means we have wasted more chances and missed more opportunities than any other team. The positive is that we are getting into the right positions and battering teams consistently. The negative is wasteful play and being open to the sucker punch, which has happened a few times.
The way we have played this season at Anfield has been startling when you look at it overall. The same pattern has virtually been in place every time, so much so that you could predict what was going to happen before the kick off. It has to be psychological and if KK can work it out we will turn those defeats and draws into victories. Next season we will not be as unlucky as this

I must say I would like Huntelaar, as I think he could play well of both Carroll and Suarez, which would give us plenty of options.

How much would he cost? any ideas?  and do you think he would want to come to us??

Schalke current 3rd in the bundesliga which offers them champions league football something we dont have. Schalke signed huntelaar from milan for 12 m Euros so i expect if they were to sell 10 m euros would be sufficient. He is 29 this year and has never been blessed with pace so not sure if he is our man

On Football Focus it was mentioned about Dempsey from Fulham would be good for us!   What does anyone think about him - not sure but I sit next to a Fulham season ticket holder at work and he thinks the sun shines out of his backside!

He wouldn't get that involved in the build up but he wouldn't need to... we already have enough of those, also Luis being the creative player he is would be the perfect foil.

We are screaming out for a #9... and also a midfield passer (a proper successor to Alonso).

Huntelaar wouldn't be my choice (Soldado is the dream signing), however as a finisher hes on a different planet to anything we have.

The owners do indeed want younger.. but regardless of age we need to start buying bonifide quality. Not doing that is what has killed us this season, and cost Comolli (and quite possibly Kenny) his job.

agree. yesterday, like the majority of our home games this season, had nothing to do with tactics.

the problems are our decision making and general intelligence in the final third. we seriously lack it, despite the fact that we probably create more chances than any other team in the league. suarez creates so much for himself but often shoots when it's easier to pass. our midfield players don't gamble enough. i think this is as much a coaching issue as anything else.

I doubt the Owners had any input as to who was signed, they seem to invest and let the Director of Football and the Manager crack on with things.

Interestingly if all the shots that hit the woodwork had gone in we would be in fourth place which is still a shed load of points behind City and United. Yes we have had the same number of attempts on goal this season as City but it is the quality of the attempts that worry me. Smacking the ball into a wall of defenders is an attempt but it certainly nothing to get excited about and that IMHO is the key problem.

We are in 19th place based on games played since the turn of the year.Luck has a small part to play but the reality is that the quality out of midfield and in front of goal is just not good enough.

I don't have a problem with Kenny's tactics to be honest.  I agree with those that say personnel is the problem.

We brought in a lot of new players last summer and for the most part Kenny has gelled them together pretty well.  Our football especially in the first half of the season has been fluid and good to watch, while the defence has generally been good with the occasional off day.

The problem as I see it is lack of quality in midfield and attack.

In midfield we've gone from a Mascherano/Alonso/Gerrard axis to the likes of Spearing, Henderson, Shelvey, Adam etc who will never be the same class of player.  Lucas' injury was also a big problem and our form has unsurprisingly dipped since his injury.  Gerrard, I don't care what anyone says, isn't the Gerrard of 2/3 years ago.  So much of his game was based on athleticism and unfortunately injuries have taken their toll.  Still a class act but his powers have diminished.

Up front Suarez and Carroll both have good qualities but neither will score enough goals to fire us to a league title.  We need a goalscorer. Badly.  Suarez imo is overrated, very erratic finisher but his movement is great and creates a lot of chances for the team.  We need someone that can be the main man and play with either Suarez or Carroll in a front two.

I don't think there's a lot wrong with us or the tactics really.  Lucas will be like a new signing next season, but we badly need a top class striker and a creative midfielder (either one that plays from the flank or one that plays centrally, hell, both if we can afford it!).
